did you know,
today is rubber eraser day?
it is the day when rubber eraser's were finally created!
so interesting right.
In 1770, the noted scientist Sir Joseph Priestley (discoverer of oxygen) recorded the following, "I have seen a substance excellently adapted to the purpose of wiping from paper the mark of black lead pencil." Europeans were rubbing out pencil marks with the small cubes of rubber.
BUT! rubber can go bad.just like our soggy cup of beans that stunk our whole classroom up (it smelt like SHIT at the back of the classroom) or maybe it was just the 'rotten durian' someone threw in the bin according to siying.
English engineer, Edward Naime is also credited with the creation of the first eraser in 1770. Before rubber, breadcrumbs had been used to erase pencil marks. Naime claims he accidentally picked up a piece of rubber instead of his lump of bread and discovered the possibilities, he went on to sell the new rubbing out devices or rubbers.
i bet he made damn lot of money man.like blanko/liquid paper makers.
so everyone.next time we bring bread to school and use it during maths okay?
or when we draw or smthng.
SPECIAL erasers!
anyway.rubber eraser day is a day to wipe out your mistakes and start anew!
AND!
93 years ago, in 1912, the titanic sunk on this very day.
it is also the day that president abraham lincoln, the 16th president of the US, dies from an assassin's bullet. He was shot the day before and lived for 9hours! before succumbing to the severe head wound he had sustained.
other things which happened today in history:
-the first screw top bottles were patented.
-bottle opener invented
-Leonardo Da Vinci was born in 1452. that would make him 553 years old today.
-james ross who discovered north-magnetic pole (tell maria ho somebody quick!) was born in 1880.his 125 years seems young compared to leo up there doesn't it?
-the first walk backwards across america began (???walk backwards.that's such a.waste of time really.walk forward la)
-emma watson(oooh so chio i like)'s birthday!she's 15.
-Harley Proctor of Proctor & Gamble perfected the floating soap, Ivory Soap.(you mean soap used to sink?)
-the first mcdonald's restaurant was opened.A "two-patty" hamburger cost 15 cents and french fries cost 10 cents. (WHAT!that means a burger now is about 26 times the price of a burger in 1955.so in 2055...would burgers cost 100bucks?)
-In 1982, actress Clara Blandick, 80, the Auntie Em of The Wizard of Oz, took an overdose of sleeping pills and tied a plastic bag around her head in a Hollywood hotel room. She left out her resume and press clippings so the newspapers would get her obituary right.
(this is just.freaky don't you think)
